With continued respect to the commitment to infrastructural development and sustainable growth across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Yesterday, I embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing 5km road project linking Naharati and Ukya communities in Abaji Area Council.

The tour, which involved key stakeholders, including the Director of Works (Abaji Area Council), Wiz China (Contractor) representative, FCDA, and STTD representatives, is to assess the progress of the project, ensure adherence to project specifications, and foster collaboration among stakeholders for its successful completion.

The message of infrastructural development by H.E Barr. Nyesom Wike on the construction of 5km road project at the just concluded 17th graded Chiefdom tour is speedily being put in place as it holds strategic importance for the development of Abaji Area Council. This project will connect the Naharati and Ukya communities, facilitating regional connectivity, enhance transportation, and promote socio-economic development in the area.

The inspection tour further highlighted the unified commitment of all stakeholders involved in the project, demonstrating a shared goal for its successful completion and the overall development of the people of the FCT.

The team’s collaborative efforts and dedication to quality assurance underscores particularly the FCT Administration’s commitment under the great leadership of the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Barr. Nyesom Wike to providing efficient and sustainable infrastructure for the benefit of the FCT people.

As you may know, Gender Based Violence (GBV) is a pervasive global issue that disproportionately affects women and girls. It encompasses a wide range of harmful acts, including physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, as well as threats and coercion.

In the spirit of solidarity, I earlier today joined in the orange walkathon held in the Federal Capital Territory, duly organised by the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, as a powerful symbol of solidarity against GBV. My involvement in this event underscores my commitment to addressing this critical issue and advocating for a world where women and girls can live free from fear and violence.

The vibrant orange color worn by participants symbolizes the hope and determination to eradicate GBV. It represents a collective movement towards a future where women and girls can fully enjoy their rights, participate equally in society, and live fulfilling lives.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, commemorated annually on November 25th, serves as a reminder of the urgent need to combat GBV. This day provides an opportunity to raise awareness, strengthen prevention efforts, and support survivors.

As most of us have actively participated in the orange walkathon, I urge all to demonstrate leadership and responsibilty in addressing GBV as we collectively create a safer and more equitable FCT, Nigeria and the world at large.

* On this day in 2002, over 100 people were killed in Kaduna during riots by Muslim youths opposed to the Miss World beauty pageant which was to hold in Abuja on December 7. The fighting began after a newspaper article suggested that if alive, Prophet Mohammed would have chosen a wife from the Miss World contestants.
